How to Kill Men and Get Away With It- Katy Brent

Book Publish Date: 12 October 2022

I didn’t pick this book, the book picked me. The title alone was enough to hook me in, and before I even cracked open the first page, I already knew this wasn’t clickbait. And it wasn’t.

How to kill men and get away with it - katy brent

This book is what I imagine most women have whispered in the back of their minds. It’s unapologetically bold, it’s darkly hilarious, and it’s cathartic. Every kill didn’t feel like revenge, it felt like an answer to a society that pushes women into fear, into silence, into keeping keys wedged between their fingers “just in case.”

That quote — “I want to live in a world where I don’t have to keep keys between my fingers in case I’m attacked” — hit too close to home. It’s not a punchline. It’s reality. But somehow, the way Katy Brent delivers it makes it hit even harder.

I related to the protagonist the entire way through. Not her influencer lifestyle, I’m still struggling to get followers, but the inner voice that’s tired, enraged, and ready to scream. She’s a bold woman who went through way too much and never got an apology for it. So instead, she carved her own justice, one murder at a time.

The author never tried to justify every action, she didn’t need to. Each moment made you nod a little, maybe laugh a little harder than you should. I won’t lie, when she minced human flesh and mixed it with vegan mince, I laughed out loud. Probably shouldn’t have, but it was too surreal not to.

I especially loved how the story wasn’t just about the kills. It became a mirror. One where she could finally look back at herself and start resolving the damage left behind. That transformation didn’t soften her power, it made her even more real.

And don’t get me started on the influencer world Brent created. From the different-tiered events to the behind-the-scenes snark, she nailed it. It felt believable, uncomfortable, and a little too close to what we all see on our feeds.

Plot twists? Absolutely. The way her father died? Shocking. The music moguel murder? Even more so. The way she managed to escape each time? Mind-blowing.

This book isn’t just murder. It’s message. If you’ve ever wanted a rage-fueled story with a dash of humor and a whole lot of “I felt that,” this is for you. And if murder books aren’t your thing — still try it. It might surprise you.
